The restful sleep ( non REM) is the part of the sleep associated to the regeneration of strengh. It is calm and dreamless, you can easily take your baby in your arms, talk to him, he will not wake up

Signs indicating restful sleep

Practically motionless, your baby breathes deeply and steadily between 30 to 40 times per minute, he may also sigh. The heartbeat is regular with 100 to 140 bpm. Sometimes he may startle, especially the first few weeks, but there is no need to worry as it is perfectly normal. With time the heartbeat will decrease and despite signs of loosening their muscle tone remains considerable.
